We’re seeking a Big Data Sr. Systems Developer to work with multiple technologies and cross-functional teams to manage the entire life cycle of a solution.  Reporting to the Chief Operations Officer, this role will assist in designing, building and validating scalable and reliable Big Data ETL, ELT, analytical, machine learning and other Big Data solutions. This position will also provide technology leadership and direction to the organization, end-users, and system partners in early adopter production environments.
Essential functions
  • Using architect’s designs to build, and test integration interfaces between Big Data platform and external systems (API-based and other)
  • Leveraging Hortonworks, HDP Hadoop platform, RDBMS, BI tools, SaaS platforms and API to deliver scalable and reliable Big Data solutions
  • Supporting development of data mining and machine learning applications
  • Supporting PoC and lab technology innovation initiatives
  • Applying concepts, industry research, best practices, and agile methodologies/tools (e.g. Jira, Confluence) to implement Big Data solutions
  • Working collaboratively with all levels of business and IT stakeholders to understand complex data relations and business requirements and to implement and test Big Data solutions  
Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Technology, or related field
  • 7+ years of production experience in Software development and SDLC
  • 7+ years of production programming experience with Java, Scala, Python or other languages
  • 5+ years combining relevant Enterprise Business Intelligence and Analytics
  • Minimum 3 years of production experience developing Hadoop Big Data applications for ETL/ELT, analytics, machine learning or reporting
  • Solid understanding of underlying infrastructure for Big Data Solutions (Clustered/Distributed Computing, Storage, Data Center Networking)
  • Experience with deployments of large distributed Big Data Applications
  • Experience with established and emerging data technologies and concepts
  • Experience in leading data integration and change management
Technical Skills
Combination of the following required:
  • Hadoop is required: HDFS, MapReduce, Hive, Hbase, Pig, Mahout, Avro, Oozie 
  • Streaming Processing: Spark, Strom, Samza
  • NoSQL: Cassandra, Hbase or equivalent
  • ETL tools: Talend, Informatica, SSIS
  • Cluster security frameworks: Kerberos, Knox, Ranger
  • BI Reporting & Visualization tools: Tableau, Information Builders, Microstrategy, PowerBI, SSRS
  • Languages:  Java, Scala, Python, Linux/Unix or other languages
  • Cloud: AWS, IBM Softlayer, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud
  • Any RDBMS/DWBI technologies 
Preferred Qualifications (Nice-to-Haves):
  • Experience working in lean/agile environments; knowledge of Jira
  • Scrum experience
  • Code compilation, code integrations with technologies such as Git, IDEs, Eclipse, Spring, Jenkins build and SVC technologies
  • Experience within the Credit Union /Banking industries
  • Experience with Flume/Kafka/Storm is a plus
  • Experience with VMWare VSphere 5.1 / 5.5 is a plus

Location:  Plymouth, MN
This is a fulltime, exempt-level temp-to-hire position with market-competitive compensation.  It is planned to be converted to a regular full time salaried position in 2018.  Full benefits and required insurances will be available to the candidate(s) selected throughout their employment.
